The bells were still ringing into the night, announcing the kings recent death. What was supposed to be a nice event for everyone during the blood moon festival and the masquerade ball turned into a great chaos. Marine was happy that her adoptive parents weren't there at all or she might have loosed them too. And she was also lucky that Facilier had saved her from the chaos and defended her from the guards when she was frightened. And now he escorted her home just in case there were more guards that could bother her. The village was so quiet. All the windows they passed were closed and they could barely see light streaming out off the windows. But she didn't live in a house, but in some wagons her troupe had made with their own hands so they could travel around for their performances. They were placed almost near the gates.

"You live here?" Facilier whispered not wanting to cause a ruckus. He knew Marina and her family were performers, but did not anticipate them to live in a travelers wagon. The bells had finally stopped chiming after what seemed like an age, but he made sure to avoid the elephant in the room. Now everyone surely knew that the king had passed. "It's lovely." He whispered, admiring the colorful paintwork on the gypsy wagon. Though it was not to his tastes, he understood and respected those who enjoyed such a lifestyle.

"Yes, and it's better than nothing," Marina replied with a smile. She hadn't always lived like this. Before her parents died, they lived in a normal house. Even their friend Aladdin the genie lived with them from time to time. But with all of them gone, she was adopted here and she was grateful for everything even though it wasn't so easy. She finally spotted her family's wagon. It would be good to embrace them again and know that they were still here and alive. The were probably worried once they had heard the bells start to ring.

Facilier followed Marina's lead as they wormed their way in and out of the wagons outside the castle. As they walked in comfortable silence, he observed her curiously. He'd met others like her before sure, but she seemed different. He couldn't place why, perhaps because she was a fellow magic user, but he was growing to enjoy the woman's company. "How long have you lived with the travelers?" he asked politely, out of interest rather than his wish to gain information.

Marina smiled back to Facilier. She was very grateful that he had saved her life and followed her home. And it was nice to have someone to talk with. "Almost ten years," she replied. "I was the only survivor when the ship sank in a storm and they found me." Her parents would surely also be grateful that Facilier had helped her and opened the door. "I'm home. Mom? Dad?" There was no answer, just darkness and silence. But before she panicked, both she and Facilier turned their heads toward the streets when they heard voices. She sighed with relief. It was her dad. And he was upset. And who could blame him? Both he and her mom were shoved back to their lair by some guards. "This is quite rude. I'm not going home before I find my daughter!" She should have seen that coming. Of course they would start looking for her when the bells had started.

Facilier bowed his head politely after Marina mentioned her parent's death "I am very sorry to hear about that and offer my condolences." He said quietly, respectfully. He held the door open for his companion, looking about the wagon with interest. Suddenly he and his companion's head turned towards the streets, where an older man was being dragged away by guards. Judging by the panic on Marina's face, that must have been her father. Facilier leaned in towards Marina and whispered "Don't panic, I'll explain. We'll be fine." Facilier straightened up and walked towards the guards, ensuring Marina was just behind him. "Excuse me, sirs! Why all the ruckus? This man was not present at the ball, how could he have done anything?" One of the guards snarled at him before barking "Oh and I suppose you were there, huh? Mr Hoity Toity? Why don't you and your little lady friend just go home, like this gentleman is about to?" Before Facilier could retort, Marina's father's eyes lit up "Marina! You're safe!"

Marina felt safe when Facilier decided to clear things up and followed him. And those guards weren't exactly nice either. Her jaw almost dropped when one of them even called Facilier 'Mr Hoity Toity'. That was quite rude of them. "Marina! You're safe!" her father said and she run toward him. Her mother somehow managed to get herself lose from the other guard and ran to Marina, hugging her and kissing her face. "Thank goodness! You safe!" Her mother said with tears in her eyes. "All thanks to this gentleman," Marina said smiling to them, gesturing her hand to Facilier. The guards suddenly seemed to look a bit uncomfortable.

Facilier returned Marina's smile before looking at the two awkward looking guards and raising an eyebrow. "I deeply apologise, sir. My partner is in no way an reflection of the royal-" Facilier waved his hand dismissively "I don't want to hear it, just allow me to take these good people home. I expected more of the gentlemen who are supposed to be taking care of the civilians." "We've heard rumours. Of witchcraft amoung the travellers." The rude guard said, giving Marina and her parents an icy stare. "If we found these rumours to be true, I think ye all know the consequences. Yer kind shouldn't be around here-" Facilier glared at the man "These rumours whether true or not shouldn't prevent you from properly perform your job. If this ever happens again. I can assure you there will be consequences." His tone was much darker at the end as he turned to the family with an aggravated smile "Let's get you home."

Marina just closed her eyes as the rude guard gave her and her family the icy glare. Her parents understood to well what was going into her mind and just hugged her tight while Facilier took care of it. Her fathers fist was shaking of fury. Her mother tried to calm him down. "Let's get you home," Facilier said. Marina just nodded thankfully to him. They started to walk back to their wagon as the guards went back on their duties as well. "Thank you so much for your help," Marinas father said to Facilier once they reached the wagon and got inside. After all of the things that happened, some warm soup would surely calm them down for a bit.

"Nonsense." Facilier said, giving the older man a charming smile. "It was my pleasure to be of service to you and your family." He stood outside the wagon as the family went inside "I suppose you folks want some time alone as a family." He announced, readjusting his cloak and standing up straight "I bid you all goodnight. I hope to see you again soon." As he said his second sentence, he kept direct eye contact with Marina ensuring she knew it was directed towards her.

Marinas father smiled grateful to Facilier, as he let his wife and Marina get inside their wagon. Even though they were poor, he knew how to act as a gentleman. Marina smiled to Facilier as he kept eye contact with her. "We perform in the middle of the town square. Maybe you'd like to see one of our shows there?" Marina asked. "Good night mister Facilier. And thank you again."

Facilier gave Marina a smile at her request "I would be honored to see you and your family's performance.: He bowed politely at her parents and Marina "You're very welcome. And please- call me Dominic." And with that he turned away from the wagon and walked back into the safety to the shadows.
