A bad situation, huh? That could mean a variety of things, and Anya didn't know Miriam well enough to try and guess which one it was. Either way, she didn't like the sound of it. "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked. She wasn't sure if there was, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Helping people was just something she always felt like she should do, mainly because she knew what it was like to be on your own and not have a friend in the world. That had been her life for so many years, after leaving this kingdom. She hoped she could turn that around though, and maybe she could help some other people too, along the way.

"I- I... I doubt that you can" Miriam bowed her head sadly. She wished she could just tell her everything, open up to this kindly stranger. But that was what got her into this mess in the first place. She would rather not have history repeat itself once more. She looked up at the older woman, giving her a slightly forced smile "But if you can stay a while and talk, that'd be nice."

Anya bit her lip. She could do nothing? Miriam seemed awfully sad. But, there were some situations in life that she just couldn't fix. It wasn't like she was a fairy and could make problems go away with a magic spell. She was low-class, not married, and currently, she didn't have any income. There wasn't much a woman like her could do. Miriam suggested talking for a while would be nice. Anya felt like that wasn't much, but if it cheered Miriam up a little bit, then she figured she might as well. The woman was nice, despite of the sadness that clung to her. "Yeah, we can chat for a bit," she replied. She ran a hand through her hair before continuing. "It seems like the laws aren't the only thing that's changed in this kingdom. The streets look different." Shops had closed, new ones had opened up, the streets hardly looked familiar anymore. Anya was sure she would get used to them in time, but still. It was a bit dizzying.

Her smile became more genuine as Anya promised to stay and chat for a while. "Yes. I haven't been here very long and I see new stalls open up nearly every year. There's almost always new people around." She tugged on her curls as she spoke "Maybe the new laws have something to do with it..." She wondered if they should be talking about the law so openly in public "But rumor has it the current King is going to withdraw the proclamation! 'Tis only rumour though... Although they say they've found the princess..." She'd heard much gossip in the streets the past couple of weeks, though the women never seemed to talk to her she listened.
