Wendy looked over her list one more time. It looked like she had everything she needed. A new feather duster for one of the maids, some spices for the head cook. It looked like there was only one thing left. Alice had given her some money and had asked to buy a little something for her. "Anything will do," she had said. The only question now was what Wendy should get. Alice always liked candy. Maybe she should stop by the candy shop? She loved dolls too. Maybe a doll would be better. But she liked books too. Wendy sighed, wishing her friend had been a little more specific. But Alice seemed to think that Wendy knew her well-enough that she would get something she liked, and Wendy was determined not to disappoint her. She stood in thought for a moment, oblivious to the people passing by her.

Jack wandered down the street, tapping his staff along the ground leaving a light trail of frost behind him. He'd gotten bored of watching Elsa train with Pitch and had decided to go out and get some air. A short while later he noticed a girl standing still, looking like she was miles away. He decided to wake her from whatever daydream she was in, wondering if she was lost or in need of some help. He sent a slight icy breeze her way as he started walking closer to her. 'You know bad things happen when you're not paying attention to what's in front of you,' he called out to her as he waved his staff in front of her face.

A cold breeze brought Wendy out of her thoughts and she shivered. Was it supposed to get chilly today? She gave a little squeak of surprise when a voice addressed her, and a staff suddenly entered her vision. She took half a step back to see that a boy had been speaking to her. He looked only a little older than her, although for some reason, his hair was white. Maybe it was the result of some magical curse? Wendy had heard stories of witches who did stuff like that, and people seemed to think that they still might try stuff like that, even with this new proclamation. "Sorry. Just...thinking about things," she said as she ran a hand through her hair. "Are you visiting?" she asked. Usually, people with staffs were travelers, since staffs could double as walking-sticks. Of course, they could also be used to do magic, but Wendy wasn't about to suggest that. People freaked out at the very mention of things like magic and spells. It never failed to drive her crazy.

'Nope, I live close by,' he said as he leant on his staff, 'just came into town for.. well, I'll let you know when I find it.' Jack looked at the girl and the goods in her hand and wondered why she was shopping alone, 'what about you? Are you here with your parents?' he asked, wondering why anyone would leave her alone in the middle of town.

"Okay..." This boy didn't seem to want to talk about himself a whole lot. Maybe he was the mysterious type. Boys could be like that sometimes. "Nope, just me," she replied. "I'm a servant at Lord Liddell's estate. I'm just running some errands for some of the staff." She held up the basket in her hands that contained all the good she had purchased earlier today. "I just need to get a little something for his daughter, and I'm good to go." Of course, she still wasn't sure what that little something might be, and she doubted the boy would be of any help. Boys could be kind of clueless when it came to picking things girls liked.

'A servant, huh?' he muttered to himself, it made him wonder whether she was human or not. Pitch always used to tell him how supernatural creatures were always taken and used as slaves, but after the Kings proclamation he wondered if the rich and powerful would risk something like that. 'And you were standing here staring into space because you were trying to think of what that little something should be?' he asked as he stared at the surrounding shops before turning back to the girl, 'well, what kinds of things does his daughter like?'

Wendy raised an eyebrow. "You say that like it's a bad thing," she said. Sure, servitude wasn't the best life, but Wendy considered herself lucky in that retrospect. If orphans didn't get a job somewhere, they ended up as homeless beggars on the street. Wendy had seen it happen more than once during her time at the orphanage. Plus, being a servant had become extra lucky for her because she had made a friend who didn't mind that she had powers. If Wendy was honest, she would say that Alice was the only real friend she had ever had. She gave a little laugh at the boy's question. "I feel like the better question would be 'What doesn't she like?' She likes everything a girl can like. Candy, dolls, books, ribbons, you name it. I'm having a hard time narrowing things down." She gave a little sigh. "I just want to get her something nice, you know? She's been a good friend to me."

'Not bad really..' he started, resting his staff against the back of his neck as he shrugged his shoulders, 'to each his own. I guess there are worse things than being a servant.' Elsa didn't like to talk about it much but he knew that after their mother died she was left to look after him while also trying to find a way to live on the streets. Maybe if someone was kind enough to give her such a job they might have avoided their hardships, for a while at least. Jack circled the girl as he thought of a way to help her, after all what else did he have planned today? 'Hmm, is there anything she wants but doesn't already have?' he asked. He could tell why she was having such a hard time, the daughter of a lord could have anything she wanted with the click of her fingers, 'I'm sure if she's your friend she'll be happy with whatever you buy her.'

"Yeah," Wendy said in agreement. Being homeless was certainly a worse alternative. Or you could be stuck in a filthy, noise workhouse, where you worked nine hours a day and hardly got any compensation in return. As looked down as servitude was, Wendy still felt like she had gotten a pretty lucky hand, considering her circumstances. She gave another little laugh. "She's a lord's daughter. She can have anything," she said. "She's not selfish, though. Far from it. She's one of the nicest people I've ever met." Sure, Alice could have her bratty moments sometimes, and she could get steamed when things didn't go her way. But Wendy saw that she tried to do the right thing whenever possible, and be generous as well. Not all lords and ladies were like that. "Yeah, that's what I try to keep telling myself," she said. "I'm probably just overthinking things again." That was one of Wendy's worse habits. She tended to second-guess herself when it came to the important stuff, or when somebody else was concerned. When she only had to worry about herself, she could make decisions easily. But now that Alice was often in her care, she had to figure her friend into the equation as well, and that could make things difficult sometimes.

'I'm glad to hear it,' he said with a small smile. Hearing the way she spoke about her friend he hoped that she was right, that the girl would grow up to be good-hearted and caring. That kind of upper-class was hard to find these days. Jack laughed softly as he stood in front of the girl, 'then stop using those brains of yours, close your eyes and pick the first thing that comes to mind,' he said as he tapped his knuckle lightly on her forehead.

Wendy was happy to see that Jack was glad to hear that. Some people were a little dubious when she spoke kindly of Alice. Rich people, especially rich humans, had a bad rap among the lower-class, especially among the supernatural ones. But Wendy felt like if there were more Alices in the world, then this stupid proclamation could be over and done with. But Wendy knew better than to hope for that. From the way things were looking, the proclamation wouldn't be lifted for a long, long time. "Okay, don't think, don't think..." Wendy kept muttering the words to herself as she shut her eyes for a moment. Once she finally relaxed, something came to mind, and she realized it was perfect. "Flowers!" she exclaimed. She suddenly froze, realizing how loud that had sounded and her face turned red. "Sorry. That was...loud," she muttered.

Jack couldn't help but smile as her face turned red, 'you don't have to apologise for being excited,' he said as he turned to glare at anyone who might even think of staring down at the girl. He walked a little way away from her, scouting for a flower shop, 'need an escort?' he asked as he couldn't see one nearby. She probably didn't need it but he thought he could accompany her until they reached the shop at least. Maybe he could even pick out a present for Elsa while he was there.

The boy quickly assured Wendy that she didn't have to apologize, which made Wendy happy. She knew that she could be a little too polite sometimes, especially when she was nervous. That was when she came off looking a bit stiff. But she felt like she could relax around this boy. When he asked if she need an escort, she gave a little smile. "Sure. You can come along," she said. "It's been a while since I've had other company besides my mistress." She gathered up her basket of things, but she suddenly stopped when she realized something. "I'm sorry, I don't think I've even told you my name," she said. "I'm Wendy." She gave a little curtsy.

(OOC: Sorry about the really late reply Dx Too much work and five hour night sleeps ) Jack was taken aback by her sudden curtsy, but relaxed when he realised she was just telling him her name. 'I don't think I've ever met anyone called Wendy before,' he mused to himself before bowing lowly back at her, something he hadn't done since he was a boy, 'I'm Jack.' He stared at the basket in her hands and offered his hand to her, 'I can carry that for you.. free you up to look around, you know?' he said with a smile.

"I guess it is an unusual name," Wendy agreed. She hadn't met anyone who was named Wendy either. Maybe her parents, whoever they were, wanted something unique-sounding. But that was a mystery that would never be solved, since she had no idea who her parents were. "Well, nice to meet you Jack," she said with a smile. Her smile grew bigger when he offered to carry her basket for her. "Oh, sure. Thank you," she said, handing it to him. She wondered if Jack was this polite to every person he met. If he was, Wendy didn't see a problem with it. No doubt he drove the girls crazy. He was kind of cute looking.
