Phoebus frowned and dropped his hand back down to his side. He had never meant for her to get so involved with him. A long pause passed between the two before he sighed. "Perhaps this would be easier if we didn't see each other. I'll arrange to have my guards escort you instead. You won't have to see me again." The words came out colder than he had expected. Without saying another word, he turned his back to her and started to leave the room.

"Don't do this to me." Odette whispered, feeling her heart nearly break at his cold tone. It hurt to hear him talk to her like that, she had never thought things would turn out like this. She moved forward and placed herself between him and the door. "Look me in the eye and tell me you don't feel anything for me and I'll stop." She said, her voice trembling at the last note. She didn't want to leave things between them like this, it hurt too much to even think about.

Phoebus slowed to a stop at her whisper, keeping his gaze to the floor. He didn't look up at her at first and tried to ignore her words but he gave in. Raising his gaze up to hers, he spoke in a low voice. "Don't make me answer that. It doesn't matter now." He pushed past her and continued to the door, his hand resting on the handle as he paused. It shouldn't have been this hard and he felt like he was betraying both her as well as Jasmine. He had played with her heart and now he had to hurt her to break free.

Odette felt her heart sink as he kept moving, "Yes it does." She said quietly, her hand resting on his briefly before she pulled it away. "You matter to me." She added softly before she stepped away from him and giving him enough room to leave if he so chose. "I know you have your responsibilities and so do I but I just want to know what you feel." She continued after a small pause. She licked her lips as she stared at him, her hands kept clenching at her sides as she tried not to do something rash.

Phoebus turned to look at her with a blank expression on his face. "If you want me to say that I love you, don't hold your breath. you know what this is Odette, it's nothing more than a silly attraction." The words slipped out of his mouth, leaving behind a bad taste. He knew he didn't love her but the way he had said it just made it sound much worse. Phoebus kept his gaze on her, doing his best to keep his composure.

She didn't think that she could feel worse but she did, "Oh." She said quietly. The tears kept falling but now even worse then before, "Maybe you're right, maybe this is a silly attraction." She grabbed her book, her fingers trembling as she did so and opened the door before she looked back at him, "You know, I thought you were different but I guess all you wanted was the chance to humiliate the Princess. Well congratulations Captain,you've done a fantastic job." She snapped and left the room before she kept crying. He didn't deserve to see her like this, not after he had seen everything else.

Phoebus stood in the library alone for a moment, blindsided by her words. Before he could stop himself, he flung the door open in frustration and ran after her. When he caught up to her, he grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him. "Don't you dare think that I intended for it to be this way. You're the one that started all of this, you can't just walk away." He could feel himself getting angry, but not at her. Mostly at himself. He let her get under his skin and now he couldn't let her leave like that. The thought of her thinking of him as some heartless bastard made his skin crawl.

Odette didn't get very far before she heard him follow right on her heels. "And what do you want from me? You don't love me, I know that! So why should I even consider staying?" She demanded as she glared up at Phoebus. He had made it very clear that he didn't love her like how she was starting to feel for him. Thankfully there were no guards around so she didn't have to worry about alerting anyone to their current situation.

Phoebus gave her a hard look at her words. "I don't want you upset about this. We both new getting into it that it wasn't going to last. You can't love me and I can't love you. That's the rules and you know it." He tried to keep his voice hushed since they were now in the halls of the castle. Plus he didn't want anyone to interrupt their conversation, not until they had gotten things straightened out.

Odette let out a bitter laugh, "While what? I become the secret you keep from Jasmine? I'm not someone you can just use whenever you feel like it. I realize I started this, but I never realized just how things would become. Love may not have anything to do with it, but you are the first person I have ever felt close too. Someone I could rely on, my protector and yes I will admit I feel something for you. Yet if we keep doing this, I'm afraid I'll lose myself." She admitted finally.

Phoebus stared at her in surprise and bit his tongue. He took a step back from her and ran his hand through his hair. "I'm sorry...I didn't realize.." He stopped talking, realizing that anything he said would probably just make things worse. All this time he had just thought she had a crush on him, that it would pass, but he never realized that he meant that much to her.

Odette let out a sigh, "I didn't even realize it myself until you said it was just an attraction." She admitted and wiped at the tears still on her face. "I'm not trying to make you feel guilty Phoebus but what you said earlier, that hurt." Odette said quietly as she looked away from him. "I understand why you can't love me and I respect that, I guess it was just nice to indulge in a little fantasy. I just feel like my entire life has been planned out for me. I can't choose something for myself and that probably sounds selfish but I've always envied those who can decide what they want." Her tone of voice expressed all of that emotion as she struggled not to cry yet again.

"I know it's been hard for you and I really shouldn't have said the things that I did." He frowned and took a step back from her. He had tried to push her away but all he did was hurt her even more.

Odette leaned into his touch and then glanced up at him, "You weren't being harsh, you were being honest." She let out a sigh and stepped away from him. "I don't want things to change between us, and maybe that's wishful thinking but I'd like to think we can still be friends." The word wasn't exactly what she had in mind with him but she'd take what she could get at this point. "If you don't think that can work I understand." She said quietly as she stared up at him.

Phoebus stood silent for a moment, thinking. He hated to leave her completely alone, especially after everything they had been through together the past few weeks. Giving her a small nod, he gently pulled her in for a hug. "Of course. We can make it work."
