John stood anxiously along with his family as they awaited the arrival of the second suitor. Only this time, it was his turn and John felt ready to throw up. He had tried telling his father about the girl Sara that he had met but he had been shut down. His mother had been the one to cheer him up, "Oh Jonathan, you and I both know you have certain duties to perform. However I also know that you're serious, about this young woman. Just give the Princess Giselle a chance and I'll talk to your father, goodness knows if he'll even listen to me." She had added with a frown. Yet even the Queen Uberta hadn't been able to sway the King's mind. John felt eyes on him and looked over at Odette who gave him a comforting smile. The smile he sent back to her was strained as he waited for the Princess to be announced. "Announcing the Princess Giselle from the kingdom Lipswich." The doors swung open to admit the Princess into the Throne Room.

Giselle stood in front of the throne room doors awaiting her name to be announced. Her eyes were closed and her breathing shaky as the thought of what was behind those doors finally began to sink in. The journey to this new kingdom was filled with so much strange wonder and excitement that she'd almost forgotten why she was even there in the first place. She took a deep breath as images of her family popped into her head. The look on her fathers face as they said their goodbyes. His moment of hesitation when he finally let go of her hand. The teary-eyed faces of her siblings as they waved goodbye to their baby sister.. She took another deep breath as she tried to calm her nerves, repeating softly to herself the promise she had made with her father before she left home. 'I promise to take my royal responsibilities seriously at all times. I shall act with grace and dignity no matter the situation. I shall never show our kingdom in a negative light.. and I shall never ever forget how much my family loves me and wants the best for me and our kingdom.' She quickly opened her eyes when the announcement finally came, quickly brushing at her pale pink dress with her hands as she composed herself just in time for the doors in front of her to swing open.
Giselle walked inside with her head held high, she seemed graceful on the outside however her head raced with the many lessons she had been taught over the years for what to and not to do in a situation like this. She stopped at an appropriate distance from the royal family in front of her and bowed respectfully, 'it is a great honour to meet you and your family, your Highness.'

John watched as the princess Giselle entered the room, she was definitely pretty even he couldn't deny that. He watched as his father stood up from his throne, "We welcome you to our kingdom, Your Highness and may I say you are much more lovely then the stories we had heard." John grimaced at his father's tone and met his mother's eyes who looked just as annoyed as he did. "As my husband said we are very pleased to have you here with us." His mother said as she moved to take Giselle's hands with her own. "Now may I introduce my son Prince John." She said and gestured to him to join her. John moved to be by her side before he bowed to Giselle with a small smile, "It's a pleasure meeting you." He said as he raised his gaze back to meet her eyes.

Giselle straightened up as the King spoke. Taken off guard by his compliment she froze for a split second unsure how to take it, however she soon collected herself and thanked him with a polite smile. 'Thank you your Grace,' she spoke courteously as the Queen took her hand, her nerves creating a knot in the pit of her stomach as she came face-to-face with the Prince. 'It's a pleasure to meet you as well,' she said as she curtsied in response. She straightened up once again, smiling back at the Prince as she watched him curiously. Her sisters were right, he certainly was handsome.

John looked over as his mother spoke up once again, "And this is my daughter, Princess Odette." She said and pointed out Odette who sank into a full curtsy. "I'm sure you are exhausted from your journey. My son will show you to your quarters, and I hope you have a pleasant stay while you're here." Queen Uberta said with a small smile. His father looked annoyed at that but chose not to say anything, which was probably a good thing. John offered his arm to Giselle, "Would you like a tour of the castle?" He asked with a kind smile.

Her eyes flickered to Odette, she was in awe of her beauty but tried to hide her stares by letting her hair fall across her face as she curtsied in return. 'It was a long journey your Grace, thank you,' she spoke courteously, however her eyes lit up at the prospect of exploring her new surroundings, even if she wasn't free to do so outside yet. 'I would be honoured,' she said as she bowed in gratitude to the rest of his family before linking her arm with his, 'I would love to see your home before I rest up for the night.'

John felt himself relax just a fraction, and saw Odette give him an encouraging smile out of the corner of his eye. "I promise I'll show you the city once you're fully settled." He said as he led Giselle out of the Throne Room. "We have a fully stocked library, some lovely gardens and the stable yard. Is there anything you'd like to see in particular?" He asked courteously. There were of course more places to see but these were the places he thought would be most interesting to the Princess.

'Really?' she exclaimed, unable to hide her giddiness at the idea of being able to explore further than the castle walls. Giselle thought about it for a moment as she walked beside him. She'd always loved spending time in the gardens back home, it was the closest she could get to the outside world without getting into trouble with her father so the choice seemed like a simple one, 'I would love to see the gardens, if you're sure you don't mind taking me that is,' she said with a shy smile.

John smiled at her excitement, Giselle seemed like a friendly young woman. He supposed there could be far worse options, "Of course, I'm sure the people would love to see their next queen." He said gently. His thoughts went to Sara and he wondered what she would have been like as a Queen. He was brought out of his thoughts by Giselle's next words, "I don't mind at all." He said as he led her down a hallway and towards a pair of great double doors that had a pair of attendants waiting for them. The attendants pushed open the doors and John led Giselle outside and into the beaming sunlight. The garden was one his mother had cultivated through the years. All kinds of different flowers beckoned at every turn, there was even a hedge maze that John had memorized. "I hope you like it." John said as he stared out over the garden with a fond smile. He had many good memories of this place from when he was a boy.

'Queen..' she repeated to herself. It seemed like such a daunting role and she couldn't help but wonder if she was quite ready for it yet, 'our parents make it all seem so easy, don't they?' she spoke softly, even if her own father was overburdened he would never let it show in front of his children. To have such power and use it with a kind heart and determination, she hoped she had the strength to be like that one day.
As the pair walked outside Giselle was hit with the warmth of the sun and she couldn't help but smile, what a beautiful day to explore something new. As she gazed at the garden before her that smile only widened and she beamed as the beautiful mixed aroma of the flowers made her senses light up. 'It's wonderful!' she exclaimed before running towards the nearest patch of flowers, crouching down to get a better look. She could tell that everything had been planted with such love and care and it was all she could do to resist lying down in the carefully arranged flowers as she did at home. 'Do you enjoy gardening, Prince John?' she asked, turning back towards him as she wondered if he had planted anything here himself.

John felt his gut clench as she murmured the word, and gave her a strained smile at her question. "I suppose in some respect." He said eventually. His father recently however seemed to be determined to turn the people against him. John was determined to change that when he could. As his father seemed to be beyond reason, and it seemed to be getting worse with each passing week. He looked up when he heard Giselle's excited exclamation, "I used to come out here all the time when I was a boy. I have a lot of fond memories of this place, mother taught Odette and I how to garden." He added with a little smile at the memory. John moved to sit next to her, "I'd almost forgotten how relaxing this place was." He said musingly.

'That makes a nice change,' she said, laughing softly, 'my brothers are great but they've never taken an interest in such things. Odette's lucky to have a brother like you.' Giselle stroked the petals of the flowers in front of her as she looked over the vast gardens, 'it is relaxing,' she spoke with a distant smile, 'I spend most of my free time in our gardens back home, it's a great place to just forget about everything for a while, you know?'

John smiled fondly at that, "You should spend some time with my sister, I'm sure the two of you would get along well." He said gently and meant it. Her other words made him frown just a little bit as he looked over the garden in all it's splendor. "I know what you mean, I sometimes wished I never had to leave. As I got older though, I was told to focus more on ruling the kingdom. Eventually I just stopped coming here, until now that is." He said as he glanced over at Giselle with a small smile.

When he suggested that she should spend time with his sister her eyes lit up, 'I'd love to,' she said enthusiastically, back home she rarely got the chance to make friends with others and she relished the thought of being able to get to know the siblings better. Even thought he suggested it she hoped Odette wouldn't find her company a burden, 'that is if she wouldn't mind,' she looked away with a shy smile.
Giselle smiled back at him as he spoke, 'hearing that makes me glad I'm not the oldest sibling in my kingdom,' she laughed softly, 'I admire you for working so hard for your kingdom and hope you can visit here more often from now on.'
