Normally, Wendy wouldn't go so near the forest. Sure, her powers could help her out if she needed them, but she knew she was pretty much weak against all the dangerous things that lurked inside. The memory of rescuing Alice from the hairy beast thing was still fresh in her mind. She still got faint of heart when she thought about what could have gone wrong that night. But, Alice had kept her promise and hadn't gone into the forest again after that, and Wendy was thankful for that. Still, she knew her friend was a little bummed out, since she had to stay in the house most of the time now. So, Wendy had decided to get her a little gift to cheer her up. She had decided that the flowers at the store in town didn't quite make the cut, so she had decided to journey to the river at the edge of the forest to get some herself. By the time she made her way over, she could already see some marsh bells, winterberry hollies, and some marigolds. She couldn't help but smile. Alice would be happy to see these. She hummed contentedly to herself as she started picking flowers, one by one.

Rapunzel walked along the river bank, bending down on occasion to examine wild herbs. Drawing out a small dagger, she cut away a small bundle of wild basil humming as she worked. As she stood and scanned down stream she noticed a young girl, picking wild flowers by the river. She smiled to herself, remembering the days when she'd pick a small bouquet of flowers to cheer up her mother. Putting the dagger back into its sheath, she tied up her bundle of basil and walked over to the girl.

Wendy paused for a moment, hearing footsteps behind her. For an instant, she panicked, thinking maybe it was another monster. She turned around, but saw that it was a young woman. She looked friendly enough, although Wendy knew better by now not to entirely trust strangers. Still, that didn't mean she couldn't be polite. "Hi," she said, giving a friendly smile. "Nice day out, huh?" She did mean that. The sun was out and there was even a little breeze to make the leaves rustle against each other in the trees. Wendy loved days like these.

Rapunzel gave the young girl a bright smile "It is, days like these are... Blissful." She let out a small, content smile and looked around at the trees. She looked down at the flowers in the girls hand "Ever made a flower crown?" She sat down along the river bank and took of the small bag that was hanging around her shoulder. Digging inside, she pulled out a small sewing needle and picked a few of the marigolds along the bank. "I used to make them all the time when I was your age, for friends and family. I can teach you if you want?" She gave the girl a small smile, eager to make a new friend and eliminate boredom.

Well, the woman was nice, so that was a plus. Kind strangers didn't exactly come across you every day. The woman even offered to show Wendy how to make a flower crown. "Oh, that would be great. Thanks," she said. Alice would love something like a flower crown. She and Wendy had made some in the past, but they were mostly clumsily tied together flowers they happened to find in the garden. They weren't exactly professional-looking. But it looked like the woman happened to have a sewing needle with her, so Wendy felt like that was a nice opportunity to make something nice for Alice. God knew the girl needed it. "

Rapunzel's eyes lit up at the girls reply, and she brought up the sewing needle to the flower's steam making a small incision. "It's just like this, you see?" She then poked the steam of one of the marigolds through the hole, creating a chain. "This is the easiest way to do it, if you make the incisions closed to the flower, you can cut away the steams once you're done." She instructed, moving slightly closer to the girl to show her own incision. She passed the girl the sewing needle and showed her where to make the cut on her own flowers. "Marigolds were my mother's favourites." She said absent-mindedly, smiling to herself. "Is yours a gift?"

Wendy watched closely, trying to memorize how the woman moved the needle through the flower stems. She made it look pretty easy, although sewing with plants was probably a bit different from sewing cloth or leather. Luckily, Wendy had plenty of experience with both of those. While Alice had no patience for sewing, Wendy was pretty good at it, and had even made alterations to some of Alice's dresses. She nodded. "For a friend of mine," she replied. "My best friend." That was the truth. In a way, Alice had been the first friend Wendy had ever had. It wasn't exactly easy to make friends in the orphanage she was at. If you got close to someone, there was a chance that they would be adopted and you would never see them again. Kids tended to keep to themselves there. It wasn't until Wendy had left and gone to work at Alice's house that she had finally made a friend.

Rapunzel smiled broadly "I'm sure they'll appreciate one of these, I know my friends did." She let out a light laugh, and watched the younger girl work. She had a knack for sewing, Rapunzel could clearly see that, and the amount of concentration on her face was endearing. She examined the younger girls clothing, which was not exactly poor looking but was modest and plain. She sat back and looked at the sky, thinking to herself as a cool breeze rustled through the trees.

Wendy was quiet for a moment as she concentrated, trying to get the knack of attaching the flowers together with a needle. Her first movements were a bit clumsy, but she felt more confident the more she did it. In a way, that was what learning was all about. You couldn't get better until you practiced. Wendy glanced at the woman, wondering who she was. She didn't seem familiar. But then again, it wasn't like Wendy knew everybody in town. "So, what's your name?" she asked. "I'm Wendy."

Rapunzel paused for a moment, unsure of whether to reveal her true identity or not. Wendy seemed harmless enough, she doubted she would turn her in. "Wendy is a pretty name." She said, a playful smile gracing her face "Most people call me Gothel. I own an Inn a few miles up river." Caution had won over, which was probably for the best. She looked at Wendy with mild curiosity "Where abouts are you from? I haven't seen you in the forest before."

Gothel...that was an interesting name. Although the woman seemed to imply that it was the name people had given her, rather than it being the name she was born with. But Wendy decided not to ask questions. She knew people were being extra careful these days, what with the new law in order. In a way, Wendy was doing all she could to make sure her supernatural nature wasn't revealed either. She just considered herself lucky that she had Alice to confide in. Not many people saw supernatural powers in a positive light these days. "Oh, I work at the Liddell residence," she replied. "The lord's daughter, Alice, has been feeling a little down lately, so I'd thought I'd give her some flowers to cheer her up." She gave a smile. "And I think she'll be doubly cheered up with this flower crown."

"Oh! The Liddell's! Lovely people, or so I've heard." Rapunzel lit up at the mention of the family. Though she was never close with Alice as she was much younger than herself, her mother considered Mistress Liddell a close friend and they often attended their parties. "It's sweet of you to do that for her, I'm sure it must be lonely for her. Cooped up in a big house like that with no one to talk to, except you of course." She knew that feeling. When she was young the forest had become her escape. Her interest in plants grew from boredom and loneliness. Sure she had friends, but no one inside her manor. "You seem quite young, if you don't mind me saying, to be working in a mansion like that."

"Yeah, her parents are a bit protective of her," Wendy said. "But I know they mean well. I mean, she is their only child. They want to make sure she's safe." Wendy could understand Derek and Annabelle's reasoning for keeping Alice in the house most of the time. In a way, she wanted to protect her just like they did. She always worried about Alice getting into trouble and not being able to help her in time. It had nearly happened a week ago, when Alice had sneaked into the forest by herself. Wendy hoped that nothing like that happened again. "Well, it was either that, or stay at the orphanage where I was raised," she replied. "I figured if somebody hadn't adopted me by now, there wasn't much hope for me. So, I decided to work instead. I guess I'm one of the luckier ones." She knew that most orphans who didn't end up getting adopted were tossed onto the street and left to fend for themselves. They became thieves, prostitutes, murderers, all kinds of horrible things. Wendy considered herself lucky that she had managed to get a job. Sure, being a servant wasn't easy, but she worked for a nice family, and had even found a friend in Alice. That had to count for something.

Rapunzel looked at the girl with admiration. She was so young but was definitely wise beyond her years, which was a rarity among the wealthy elites. "You remind me a lot of a girl I knew." Her eyes filled with regret when she said those words, she didn't like thinking about Emily.

"Oh, really?" Wendy asked. "Who was she?" She was curious, although as soon as she asked the question, she saw Gothel's eyes get a little sad. She bit her lip. Maybe that hadn't been the right thing to ask. "Sorry. Forget I said anything," she said. It looked like this Gothel woman was keeping a few things under wraps, which Wendy respected. Heck, she was keeping a secret of her own. Why judge others who were doing the same? Everyone pretty much was these days, even if they weren't supernaturals hiding their powers.
