Phoebus returned to his position against the wall, thankful that she didn't get upset by his sudden words."You're not imagining it..." he mumbled softly, more to himself, but surely enough for the princess to hear him. The signs were all there, showing up more frequently as years went on. Ever since the proclamation, all Phoebus can focus on is keeping Jasmine a secret, and doing his best to help others like her before they are found out by his men.

Odette relaxed at his words, glad that someone agreed with her. There was a sudden loud knocking on her door which caught Odette's attention. "Your highness, please open the door." A droll voice sounded somehow filling the room. Odette tensed as she immediately recognized the voice. She exchanged a look with Phoebus before she straightened her shoulders. Even though she wore no crown, she had a look of royalty about her. She moved forward and opened the door, "Claude Frollo...to what do I owe the pleasure?" She asked as she stepped back to let him inside which he did as if he owned the room. He froze when he saw Phoebus, "I was not aware the Captain of the Guards would be here." He said with a dismissive tone. Odette sighed and stepped next to Phoebus, "Well he was just checking up on me." She said firmly. Frollo's eyes raked over the dressing gown that she wore then to Phoebus and the still steaming tub. "Ahh I see." He said in a insinuating tone.

Phoebus' glance immediately shot to the door at the sound of loud knocking, his muscles tensing as he knew exactly who it was. He gave Odette a comforting nod as she opened the door to let Claude Frollo himself in. "My lord...I had not realized you would be visiting the princess so late in the evening, I was just finishing up my rounds." He gave the man a short bow, ignoring the disgust he was feeling in his stomach. Phoebus followed the older man's gaze as it moved over Odette and onto himself. Protectively, he gently pulled her behind him and raised the cape from his uniform slightly so it covered her body. It wasn't very proper for a woman to be seen in such dress before a man and Frollo reminded him of that. "As you can probably recall, I tend to have horrible timing. What can we do for you, my lord." His voice was firm, clearly stating that he would not be going anywhere.

Odette was silently grateful when Phoebus had the foresight to cover her with his cape, she didn't like the Claude's eyes on her. "Indeed, well seeing as you how you have clearly checked up on the Princess I'm sure she no longer requires your services." The Claude said as he sneered down at Phoebus. "I actually came down here because of the Princess acting like a child over the announcement of her upcoming engagement, she deserves to be punished. At the very least, to repent for her sins, her father is the one who asked that I oversee the proceedings." He added with a smirk that he sent directly to Odette. "And since you're here, you may as well be the one who carries out the deed. Would a few lashes sound fair?" He asked. Odette's eyes widened in horror at what he was suggesting, surely he wouldn't actually go through with it but her heart faltered just a little bit at Claude's look. |

Phoebus glared at his suggestion of punishment. "All due respect my lord, but I believe the royal family is excluded from such a punishment. Besides, I have already spoken with her highness about the situation and everything is under control." He never broke his gaze with the man and stayed firmly where he was. For a man of religion, Frollo had always seemed a little violent for his taste. "I've already placed her under orders to travel only with my guards from now on. I do not see any reason for additional punishment. Pardon my rudeness sir, but I will not hesitate to protect the princess, even from a man of such a rank as yours." His voice was hard an he placed his hand loosely on the holster of his sword to emphasize his point.

Frollo glared at Phoebus, "Well seeing as how I got the message from the King I believe your orders are irrelevant." He spat as he grabbed Odette by the arm. "If you won't obey I'll have you hanged for treason." He snarled. Odette's eyes were filled with unshed tears. "Captain, just do what he says." She said in a shaky tone yet she refused to let her tears fall just yet. "Well Captain?" Frollo asked with a narrow gaze as he studied Phoebus. |

He grit his teeth, his muscles tensing when Frollo grabbed Odette out from behind him. Phoebus clenched his hand around the holster of his sword before he let out a soft sigh of defeat and lightly nodded his head. "Very well my lord..." His hand fell back to his side. He shot Odette an apologetic gaze, wanting her to know that he never wanted to do this.

Frollo grinned, "Very good Captain, you've made the right choice." He said as he shoved Odette down to the floor in a movement that Odette was prepared for. "Now then Odette you know what's required." Frollo said as he lifted some of Odette's hair in a movement that was very familiar. That was when the Crown Prince arrived, "What's going on here?" John demanded as he strode into the room, taking in the scene with a darkening expression. Frollo immediately stood up and faced him, "Your Highness, I am merely-" He was cut off as John pushed past him and helped Odette up off of the floor. "You want to punish someone Frollo, then be a man for once in your life and take it out on me." He snarled as he turned to face Frollo. |

Phoebus flinched as Odette was thrown to the floor, fighting his instincts to attack Frollo. The moment Frollo turned when the Prince came in, he ran to her, helping her up until John took over. He took off his cape and draped it around her soldiers, offering the prince a nod as he led Odette away from Frollo a few steps. His gaze was hard when he looked at the man who had just harmed the princess but took a moment to soften it as he looked down to check on her.

Frollo straightened, "Are you questioning my authority?" He asked in a tone that brokered no argument but John only stepped closer. "Hardly, I'm questioning your manhood." He quipped, Frollo scowled and it seemed like he might actually hit John but then Odette stepped forward. "I believe you've made your point Frollo, I suggest you leave before you do something that might be considered improper." She said firmly. For a long time Frollo didn't say anything just glared at John before he let out a dark laugh, "Mark my words you'll regret this day Your Highness." He snarled before he spun on his heel and left the room. Odette let out a shaky breath and sagged a little bit, it was clear that dealing with Frollo wasn't easy. "What was that man doing here Phoebus?" John demanded as he turned to look at Phoebus with a raised eyebrow. He didn't take any threat against Odette lightly, "John...don't get mad at Phoebus, he tried to stop him." Odette said with a frown. John kept staring at Phoebus, "Was that before or after you were on the floor?" He asked darkly as he glanced over at Odette. |

Phoebus sighed with relief as Frollo finally left the room. He turned to the prince as he was getting questioned and bowed. "He said he was here to punish the princess, your highness...I take full responsibility for how far it had gone. I didn't try hard enough to stop him." He knew that he had failed in his job tonight and the prince was very strict when it came to his sister. "My deepest apologies to you, princess. I should not have backed down like I did..." His lips twisted into a frown as the scene played again in his head.

John didn't say anything for a moment but then let out a sigh. "I apologize Phoebus, the person I'm really mad at is Frollo." He said after a moment. He glanced over at Odette who gave him a small smile, "All I ask is that you keep an eye on Frollo when I'm not here." He added as he turned to look at Phoebus. "I know you're the Captain of the Guard, so any men that you trust with my sister I'd feel much better." He continued. "And if you have trouble with him, send for me." John added firmly. Odette smiled at his words, "Thanks John." She said gently, not quite able to hide her relief.

"Of course, sir" Phoebus nodded, grateful that the Prince didn't expect him to believe Frollo's every word like the king did. "If you don't mind, I'd like to keep an eye on the princess until she is comfortable once again. She's been through a lot this evening." Plus, he wanted to make sure Frollo wouldn't try to get to her later in the evening.

John studied Phoebus thoughtfully before he nodded, "Very well, I see no problem with that. I have other matters that need to be dealt with but I'll make sure that my father is told of Frollo's disrespectful behavior tonight." He said after a moment. It probably wouldn't change anything but he was determined to at least try, "Take care of Odette." He said before he hugged Odette gently, "And make sure to relax sis, I'll be back in the morning." He told her tenderly before he turned and left. Once the prince had left Odette let out a shaky sigh, "I'm sorry about all of that." She said quietly. |

Phoebus bowed to the prince one last time as he left the room. He turned to Odette and gave her a reassuring smile. "It wasn't your fault. Are you feeling alright? I can leave if you'd like." It was understandable if she wanted to be alone after all that had just happened. He never realized how crazy her life could be, even though he only had a small glimpse of it in the past few hours.
(sorry about the really short posts, I just got home from work and I'm exhausted lol)
